Personal Reflection
Personal Statement:
When I was a child, my favorite thing to do was compete in sports. As I grew up, I realized I didn’t enjoy competing, but I enjoyed being a team and striving to win. Being on a team, I have obtained the skills to become a key leader to my teammates. I know when and hot to encourage my teammates, and their different strengths and weakness. I also realized I want to help others in anyway that I can. I strive off of seeing their improvements and their motivation to keep continuing. I am really passionate about watching someone take the steps and grow as an athlete. I have been apart of a sports team for 15 years, and I believe I have gained the skills to a great team leader.
I experienced a traumatic injury that changed my perspective on playing sports. I learned that you don’t have to be playing a sport to be apart of a team. When I was injured, the physician assistant with me throughout my injury opened my eyes to a new aspect of team. The atmosphere of a sports team was just the same as being apart of the health care field. The team of doctors, physician assistants, and nurses all worked together in their positions to fix my injury. As these three positions stood out to me, one in particular really caught my eye. I was very influenced by how much my physician assistant cared and continually helped me throughout this process. This was when I knew I wanted to have this same affect to others. I knew at this point, I wanted to pursue a career as a PA.
For me personally, my physician assistant really influenced me to look at health care from his perspective. He taught me that through this field you can perform surgery, diagnosis, and evaluate all different injuries. He expressed that he became a PA because, he wanted to be able to fix an injury and continually follow up with them throughout their process. This was a breaking point in helping me decide what I wanted to pursue as a career. Throughout my six-month recovery, my physician assistant was the key player to helping me strive to get better. This experience has swayed to see a different side of the health field. Before my surgery, I never knew how much healthcare providers really can really influence their patients throughout their injury. As an athletic training student, I have been able to diagnosis, treat, and follow up on injuries with athletes. I have been able to strive off of this atmosphere, but I really want to take my degree even farther to be able to help perform surgery to fix an injury. I believe this environment will allow me to continue being apart of a team and continue to help others.
Statement of Purpose:
As an athletic training student I have been exposed to many athletes, injuries, and emotional set backs. Not only have I been exposed to these environments, however, I have also experienced them. I want to pursue my career into this health care field because I believe I can help others when they experience an injury. I want to take my skills as an athletic training student, and futher extend my education into learning how to operate on patients. I want to be able to physically make a difference in their life to allow them to continue their daily activities. I plan to go to physician’s assistant school and specialized in orthopedics. I have been influenced through personal experience of a traumatic injury, and my physician assistant was a key to helping me strive through the process. I want to be that person for others, and I believe I am capable and have the skills to succeed in this career field.
Personal Mission:
To become a physician assistant who encourages each patient to continue striving to get better by overcoming the obstacles knowing I will continue to be by their side throughout their recovery.
